What kind of paper?
« on: January 19, 2005, 09:44:37 AM »
Ok this is really strange, I know... but Im wondering if any of you book lovers out there have a favourite type of paper for book pages? I like smooth silky pages with a good heavy weight to them. What about you?

Actually - it's not strange at all.

My favourite paper is the stuff my Ayn Rand books are printed on - that really thin paper with the tiny typeface.

I hate the stuff that feels like newspaper or really rough stuff you can see the bits of "pulp" in.

Yeah that stuff tears really easily. And when it gets wet - forget about it!

Ha ha - maybe that's why I like my Ayn Rand books?   ;)

I just like when the pages don't stick together. I am bad about bending the corners to mark my place, even with all the pretty little book thongs I got to keep me from doing this.  I like the paper to be stiff, but not flimsy, but not silky either.

Ah, see, I buy almost all my books used from marketplace sellers on Amazon or in charity shops.  They have that nice, broken-in feel.   :D

And I like a BRAND new book, just off of the press. The smell is unbeatable.

I don't like the paper to be too stiff or it feels like I am reading a set text at school. I like the nice soft paper they use in most paperbacks.  And like expat I get a lot of books from charity shops etc, so some of them are quite lived in which I like too as long as they're not grubby. I don't like a grubby book.
