Well, I told my boss on Tuesday, after giving notice to marry on Saturday and returning to the US on Monday, President's Day. I wanted to wait till giving notice before saying anything, so I didn't jinx anyone.
I had planned to walk into my boss's office Tuesday morning, but when I got home from England and checked m work emails, I found out that my boss had gone to Italy for a holiday and hadn't said anything to me before I had left for England. So, wanting to give her as much time in advance to prepare for my leaving as possible, I called her in Italy and told her. She was very happy for me, she said she was almost crying for joy.
The news has spread like wildfire. People I haven't told personally are coming up to me, congratulating me and hugging me, it is wonderful. I've told everyone the truth; that I have been engaged since August, but I didn't want to say anything till I had my visa and I knew that everything was going to work out. I think the idea that was suggested of me saying that I had just gotten engaged, so my boss didn't think I had hidden something from her, was very good, but in the end I just couldn't lie about something this important to people that I like.
It's also very nice to quit a job because you have something good going on in your life, rather than because you are unhappy with the job.
