I got an interview -- to prove I speak ENGLISH
« on: January 21, 2005, 10:01:59 AM »
I spoke to our family solicitor and gave him the details from the Home Office Website - about PROVING that I have sufficient command of the English language.  He phoned me this morning to say that I can meet him tomorrow morning for an "interview" so he can give me a certificate to accompany my application for citizenship!!!  YAY!  The ball is rolling!!!!!!

(I know this is a spaztic thing to be excited about -- but there ya have it!)

I'm glad you're happy but, um, wouldn't evidence of whatever qualifications you have from the US be sufficient to prove you speak English?

would you believe I found mine the other day (going through boxes of books I had moved over from the US the first time)??Quite chuffed with myself, given I graduated in '75. It would be my luck that they wouldn't recognize it because it was in the stone ages! LOL

Well I'm a big nerd, because I packed mine up especially to bring over.  It's in the top of the guest room wardrobe with my college degree and transcripts.  Geek = me!   :-[

Sad to say, but depending on the job, it is possible to work in the US without being able to speak proper English (or American).
