This is a good thread! Some ppl mentioned they wished they'd brought their cast iron. I'm determined to ship my favorite skillet even though I've been compared to a pioneer woman. I'm two weeks away from the big move but I'll be sure and stock up on deodorant and feminine products. I already have BPA free tupperware, a big bottle of advil, Vit. C, and other misc things I find necessary, although I realize I'll have to adjust to life without some things eventually. (I brought measuring cups, beauty products, etc. over ages ago). Other foods I always bring on visits:
Kettle popcorn
White Lilly flower (to make proper Southern biscuits!!)
Lipton's iced tea (my family won't drink it but I will)
Stubb's BBQ sauce (I cannot find good bbq sauce in the UK)
Luna bars
Dreamfield's low carb pasta
Anybody have any suggestions about finding alternatives? One thing I'd love to find in the UK is turkey bacon, like one would find at Whole Foods or a little co-op. I don't eat regular bacon and my husband even likes it when we're in the US. I haven't looked at Whole Foods in London (we're based in Kent) or Waitrose but definitely no luck at Tesco or Sainsbury.
I KNOW I'm going to miss Mexican food. May have to get my mom to send me some masa to make tamales at Christmas. I've had good luck finding dry pinto beans and taco shells/tortillas but the food at the Mexican restaurants there are not the same!
