I'm not British an I don't like English styles or the clothes either I have lived here over 6 years I can count on both hands probably 7 or 8 shirts & tracky bottoms combined I have bought while living in the UK. I think it might be because I'm plus size an I don't like the plus size style of clothes here in the UK.  ::)  :P

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have brought a total of one shirt and one pair of trousers since being here. And two pairs of shoes which did not last more than 6 months. :(

I end up getting my clothes from the US or buying US brands like GAP. I am also plus sized.

Thanks for the tips, I'll be looking in Tesco (if I can find a large enough one) for kosher salt.

Brit here - celery salt is definitely available - My mum has been using it for years and it featured in her teaching me to make certain sauces at least 20 years ago. That said, it can sometimes prove elusive!

I brought 4 things back with me from my recent trips to the States. The rest I've learned to live without (as in the case of my former beloved Hidden Valley Ranch dressing), or happily accepted the substitutes here.

2 huge rolls of Glad Cling Wrap---I just could not find a plastic wrap here that I liked as much.

Twizzler candies ('nuff said)

Plain ole paper napkins (MardiGras multipak in fun colors)...The serviettes here are way too spendy and not great for everyday use.

Me three! Oh man do I severely not like the fashion over here. not the clothes, not the shoes.  I buy what I must because I need it. The colors are faded and everything is cookie cutter to no shape.  The only thing that does make me happy is that alot of stores have larger sizes.  I too am plus-sized.

Boy was I thrilled when my fellow expat told me that Old Navy officially ships internationally.  I barely shopped at Old Navy while in the states.  Now I'm drooling over their stuff.

The things I wish 'd brought with me are more personal, really.  They are in a small locker at the storage place.  But I miss my spinning wheel, my lap harp, my jewelry making tools and my spiritual items.  And I have no idea how to ship my sword over. :(

I don't know if it is the same thing, but at the Jamaican store where I get my mac and cheese from they had something called Cornmeal Grits.

I can't seem to find affordable flats that last more than 4 months.  I walk about 20 minutes every day to get back and forth from work, I think the combination of cobblestone and poor construction has been killing off my flats rather quickly.  I also am not a big fan of the fashion here.  I agree that the colors in this season are so washed out and some of the fashion I see is just  :P, black sheer tights under shorts for example.

And. whats. with. the. lace....  :o  :-\\\\  ???

Its not even nice lace. its this low end ugly thing and everyone's buying it up.

I have seen some nice items pop up lately. Unfortunately its all smaller sizes.

And does ALL work clothing indicate you are working at a bank? Seriously...what's with that?

Don't mind me. I specialize in sarcasm, so read it in a light tone.  :)

Unless you are talking about Harem pants....there is nothing funny EVER about harem pants.

I found some at my local ASDA in the international foods section.  Along with Kraft Mac & Cheese.  Give your local ADSA a try.

The tops and dresses where I live in East Midlands are plagued with the ugliest granny lace stuff.  either the top back will be lace or it will have a lace overlay. But its horrid and cheap looking and everyone buys it. The summer stuff doesn't seem to have much of it at the moment but its still there.

I was thinking recently about what I would want and be unable to get when I move back. I ended up thinking it wouldn't be a lot because so often you get hooked on a particular product and then they discontinue or change it anyway. And I'm not gonna cry over no more Hanes undies or Kraft mac and cheese or whatever -- because I'll find something just as good. I think the real killer is that similar things in the UK will cost more. But so will shipping over the American products. Better to bite the bullet and get used to it. [I will miss apple sauce though ...]
