Yes you can work on a settlement (Leave to Remain)  visa! You need to call your local jobcebtre about getting a NI Number but you cn start work without that - you will pay tax at a higher rate til you get it though.

Your temp NIN number is: TN dayofbirth monthofbirth lasttwodigitsofyearofbirth and F for female or M if you are male.

So it should look like this:

TN081566F

You cannot work on a fiance visa, which is also considered a settlement visa.   Blazesun, I looked through your previous posts and could not find out which visa you are on. So the answer is "depends".

You can work on a Leave to Remain visa, as Britwife said.

Her signature says she's married to a British man.
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

Never mind, then.

But as a general question, the answer as "depends."

Blazensun,

You should have recieved a letter with your visa which tells you the basics of your visa. It should also tell you that you can work.

Since you've got a  settlement visa (which I'm assumming is a Further Leave to Remain (FLR) or Indefinate Leave to Remaine (IRL) ) then, yes, you can work in the UK.

Now all you've got to do is go get that NIN.  ;)
