Yet another drivers test question
« on: January 27, 2005, 06:23:07 PM »
How many of you took the automatic test only? DH says you can take this test and not the manual one, but you will be unable to drive a manual! Is this the same now after 10 years? Is there a site to go for more info on the driving tests?

I took the automatic test many years ago, and then a mototcycle one, then the manual one (that last twice as I failed the first time due, of course, to some other IDIOT on the road  ;) who was signalling left and carried on straight ahead).

The taking of a test on an automatic still does NOT give you the right to drive a manual car on your own, although your resulting full license "also acts as a provisional license for any other group that you can legally drive".  I think the separate tests came in during the 1960s.

Links? http://www.dvla.gov.uk contains much more up do date information than my memory, and there are some useful threads here a page of two back.

I do not know how to drive a manual and would have to get an automatic as my manual training went very bad! I refuse to drive a manual after I tried many times to do so.
