Did anyone already mention that theatre means the stage theatre and a movie theatre is the cinema.  And you don't go to the movies or the pictures, but you go to the cinema.  How grand.

and...and... if you turn channels on the tv, that's 'switching over'.  And you  don't say a show is over, you say it's finished.

I must stop this,  I'm getting carried away.

And I have to say if English people say someone is getting carried away, then it's usually in a very disaproving tone.  They hate to see people get carried away.    :-X

commericials are adverts

unwell is  when you have your period..not when you are sick the term they use is 'ive come unwell'

taxi..not cab

Pronounciations:

It is Glass-go NOT Glass-gow

It is Edinburra NOT Edinburrow

And for God's sake (I really hope someone hasn't covered this) but it is Geredge NOT and I do repeat NOT Gar-rage (with an accent) like we say in the States.

purple things are black-currant, not grape.  i've not found one grape-flavoured item here yet.   :(

ppl here think i'm odd for wanting grape-flavoured things.

We wouldn't have the 'u' in there.  It would be Edinbra. ;D

Also think it is garredge rather than Geredge.  :-/

Just thought of another one...

I really wish someone had told me NOT to say excuse me when I bumped into someone.  I had approx. two months of dirty looks before I broke down and asked what the heck was going on.   :-/

Because you are implying that it was their fault.  You ONLY say excuse me if someone is in your way.  If you bump into someone then you say, sorry.  This is a VERY appologetic (sp?) country.

mad never means angry,  it means insane or crazy, or as my MIL would say 'quite M*A*D'

hysterical isn't used  to mean very funny or laughing uncontrollably it means out of controll, slap my face, I'm hysterical.

Most british households don't have wash cloths (or face flannels, as they are called here), so when visiting you need to bring your own.  I ALWAYS forget this one.
