Does anyone have a partner that has come to the US under the J-1 Visa (CIEE trainee)?  If so, please share your stories and the difficulty of obtaining a visa for him/her.

Thanks,
Tonya

I have a partner who will be comming here in July if all goes to plan under their Professional Career Training program.  He came out at Chsitmas and found a sponsor, so if all the paperwork goes to plan he should be all set.  The hardest part is finding a sponsor, he lucked out with his first try and they are also willing to make it paid training so he is going to try and stay for the max 18 mo.  Will let you know how things progress, we are hoping to have it all set by April so we will know when he's comming back.  What area is you partner looking to train/intern in?  I really think it's "easy" if yo have a sponsor, but it is quite expensive (was something like 1,000 pounds for the 18 mo. program last year, I'd email and ask them).  Worth it though not to be an ocean away :)

Jackie, what is your e-mail?  I would like to talk offline.  Mine is in my profile  so you can send a private message if you don't want to post it on here.  I would like to hear more about what field he is in, etc.  Mine is in social services so it shouldn't be hard...just wondering how things progressed for you.
