My husband make them every year for Shrove Tues. It took me two years to try them as I was grossed out watching him make them. He takes very cheap watery pancake mix and puts way too much oil in a pan and fries the pancake. Its about as thin as crepe. Then he puts lemon juice and sugar on it. GROSS! But I tried last year and they were really good :) Just not like the American pancakes you would get at IHOP or Dennys

They are crepes.  They're just called pancakes.
I'm sorry.  I'm just not cool.

Try adding a bit  more salt and baking soda to get the more bisquick taste... one type even has cornmeal.  I guess it's all up to what you grew up with and while we did have one or two things with Bisquick for the most part we did not eat it... I don't like it... :P

We are having pancakes tomorrow.....

They're English pancakes.

The Scottish ones are more like the American style.

I cheat and use the Sainsbury's "Scotch pancakes" when I do big breakfasts at the weekends.  Those with Lyle's Maple Flavoured Syrup and you're good to go!  :D

But my mother made great pancakes and I miss making the time to make them myself.  :-\\\\

Ohhh, are they good!?  I'll have to find the Lyle's, I miss maple syrup!

I love the Crepe ones though too!  I've used Greens (Is that right?)

Well, I like 'em!

And they come with raisins & lemon as well - haven't tried those yet because the youngest son doesn't like raisins.

Is it raisins and lemon together?  Or two different?  I love lemon and raisins but not together. (At least I don't think I do?)

If you are in London and want Bisquick...head to St Johns Wood and go to Panzer's market...I bought some on Sunday to make for my bf who had never had "American" pancakes!

The using up of food such as eggs that isn't allowed to be eaten during Lent.

http://homepages.tesco.net/~derek.berger/holidays/pancakeday.html But that date in that page is for last year  ;)

I'm sorry I didn't thank you properly, GrahamE until now.  I appreciated the link!

Went to Tesco today and huge signage for Pancake Day.  Image of two young kids with 'Nice try, Dad!' under a pancake pan.

Tesco also has Bisquik

The supermarkets near me only stock it for 3-4 weeks around Shrove Tuesday.
