UK/US citizen marrying a US citizen
« on: February 01, 2005, 07:17:28 PM »
My boyfriend is a dual citizen UK/US and is living here in the US for school.  If we were to get married would it be easier if we got married in the UK first since we are both already US citizens? ;D  Also if we chose to live here in the States would our children be able to be dual citizens as well?

I am pretty familiar with the American part of immigration and marriage but I am just starting to learn the UK side of it.

Thanks so much for helping me  :)

Kim

Given the new rules governing marriages between UK nationals and US citizens (there's a thread concerning this at the top of this area of the forum), it may be cheaper for you to marry in the US.  Once you marry, you can get an entry clearance visa to enter the UK as the spouse of a UK national from your nearest British Embassy in the US if you chose to live in the UK.  Basically, you can no longer come to the UK on a tourist visa (which you would get as you are a US citizen) and marry.  But you are, of course, free to marry anywhere in the US.
