Okay now.

Let's just define.

There is Valley, and there is LA.

BIG DIFFERENCE.

The valley girls are the ones that don't pause for breath while speaking right? ;)

Yes that is one way of putting it.

I refer to the classic song of 1982, Valley Girl, by Moon Unit Zappa.  The penultimate of Valleyspeak.

Most of the places I like in LA have been mentioned already. I would also just put in a word for The Stinking Rose as a great place to eat (but only if you like garlic): http://www.thestinkingrose.com/

They have one in LA too!  I was at the one in San Fran, OMG!  So good!!!!!  I love Garlic!!!!

Fungirl thanks for the info especially the shopping.................  :( we are not renting a car unfortunately as the thought of driving in the States scares us  so we have to figure something out............... Do you still Live in LA and where would you recommend to eat and not to go to

Sorry, not in LA any longer.  Sorry, I should convert that to LAspeak....  Like, I'm so not in LA anymore.  It got, like, way too crowded and stuff.  :D

I beg to differ.... I grew up on the westside and had to re-learn how to speak without putting "like" in the middle of a sentence four or five times.  Embarrassingly, it still comes out occasionally if I've had a bit too much to drink.  :-[

That may be true.  It's when it's used in it's extreme, combined with other aforementioned phrases, and 'the accent'...
is, like, what I mean.
 ;D

And, I do remember thinking, when I first heard the term, Valley Girl, I thought, the surfers I grew up with all talked like that.
