Birth Control question
« on: February 04, 2005, 09:51:02 PM »
I know there is another thread on here regarding birth control, but I didn't see the form I am using discussed at all.  I use the Nuva-ring, which is wonderful.  I am wondering if anyone knows if it is available in the UK?  I hate to go back on the pill.  I am going to ask my US doctor for a few months worth of samples to take with me until I get settled.

I use the Nuva Ring which I obtain from the USA.  My doctor in the UK had not heard about the Nuva Ring and I read an article that says it most likely will not make it to the UK anytime soon, due to the cost.  It is a great form a of Birth Control.  Ask for some samples from your OB/GYN.  Good Luck!

Although the Nuva Ring isn't available- the Era Patch is.  It's once a week- like the Nuva Ring- but it get stuck on like a bandaid/plaster.  I've been using it for 3 months and love it.

consider the mirena IUD - look it up online for all the info - it's free and my dr. said it's a good switch from the nuva-ring (I have that now too).

Just found out this week I can't use any kind of hormonal BC.   :-\\\\  Ugh. Using condoms forever doesn't seem that exciting but what other options are there?
Love your life, poor as it is. You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a poorhouse. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the almshouse as brightly as from the rich man’s abode; the snow melts before its doors as early in the spring. Cultivate property like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. Sell your clothes and keep your thoughts…

i've used the film before when i've done the pull out and pray but NOT as sole protection.  i don't trust it.

I used a diaphragm for awhile. It was a bit inconvenient but as far as effectiveness...just as my 4th son!

I'm using the film not which I bought in the USA. I'm not sure if they have it here.

I'm probably showing my age here but whatever happened to the Today sponge?

Also I wanted to add Im pretty sure every kind of BC you can get here is free.

The sponge was pulled from the market in the mid 90's....not sure why...maybe toxic shock issues? I used them a couple of times but they were so hard to remove...almost had to go to the ER....how embarrasing! It was a great concept but way too difficult to deal with unless you were a pro!  :o  Remember the Seinfeld episode when Elaine found out they were going to stop making and selling them so she bought up all she could find (a case or two) and then wouldnt use them with a guy unless he was "spongeworthy". That was a funny episode!

Pebbles - I bought some C-film when I recently went back to the states but am a little leary to use it alone. From your experience are you comfortable with that?

LOL. Yes the Spongeworthy episode. One of my favorites. I'm a pathetic and sad die hard Seinfeld fanatic!

Well along with the film we seem to be practicing abstinence.  :\\\'(
But I have talked to a few ladies that swear by VCF.

I myself am back on the depo provera, had hard time remembering the pills each day same time. I also went back on this as it is free. Spending money each month for pills and supplies was not wothr it to me when something can be free.

Side note: My state is considering having druggists stop selling the pills if the are morally objected to it. Knowing my luck mine would and then where would I be?

Umm.. I hope I don't come across as insensitive, but if you don't naturally get your period, why does it need to come artificially? (as in, couldn't you just live without?) I only wish...

Perhaps, if someone would like to conceive or to balance out hormone levels.  Could be why!  I guess if you do not have issues with either, then the joy of no monthly period can be yours.
