Does anyone know where I can get some cornbread
« on: February 09, 2005, 03:19:31 PM »
I have been here since December in South London and I really want some Jiffy cornbread and all of the supermarkets don't have any idea what I am talking about.  If you have a clue, please refer me.  I think my finance is sick of hearing about it.
The day I met my son is the day I became me.  I thank him for that.

Try Roslyn Deli in North London - there's a link around here somewhere....

If you can't find it, why not make it yourself, here's a recipe link to all kinds of cornbread  ;)

Where in south L. are you located? I'm in Lewisham  :)

i scoured london shops and internet sources 2 years ago and gave up! i do make cornbread from scratch here as well but it's not the same as jiffy. it's cheap and easy for family to send from the US, though. :)

I don't know if they strech all the way to London, but Morresons (or Safe Way) carry corn meal in some of their stores.  I found some there the last time I was in Doncaster and bought about 5 bags.

Heh, the day I posted the link for cornbread recipes, I got such a craving myself and got a bag of cornmeal at Tesco in their Asian food section!  8)

I make it all the time from scratch, have a wonderful simple recipe, and it turns out just like jiffy!! In fact, in my sandwich maker, I make corn dogs, which I totally miss all the time!! I actually learned how to do this back home! Just mix up the cornbread batter, put about a tablespoon or two on the bottom part of the sandwich maker, stick half a hot-dog part way into the batter, add another tablespoon or two of the batter on top of the hot-dog, close the sandwich maker, but stick a butter knife into the latch a bit, just so the cornbread can rise, give it a couple minutes, and you will have corn dogs that taste just like back home!!

Since you are in London, if ya get real lazy, check out Bodean's BBQ off Oxford Street. Not only do they serve killer pork ribs and pulled pork (cooked on an Oklahoma smoker), they serve cornbread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
