Copies of Bank statements
« on: February 12, 2005, 11:45:12 PM »
For my fiancee visa, can I submit bank statements printed on line, or should I go down to my bank and get actual copies of statements?

Bank statements are surprisingly easy to fake, so I think the closer to real you can get the better. My bank used to provide a verification service, where we would mark someone's copies as true to the original. That may be an option for you if they cannot reproduce your actual statement.

I lost my statements somewhere along the way between western and eastern NC -- I moved back home the summer before our wedding.  As a result, I just printed out the last three months' worth of statements online and they didn't have any problem with that at the consulate (NYC).

If you really want "official" copies, most banks will print them for you either for free or at a nominal fee.

I made the mistake of bringing in internet printed statements. Thank goodness we also had payslips and whatnot, 'cause they rejected the statements. They said that if we had taken them into the bank and had them officially verified/stamped then they would have been perfectly acceptable....

The NYC Consulate excepted my latest statement printed off the internet. It did have the bank letterhead on the top of the page, though.
