Ok -- so I'm a coffee whore but.....
« on: February 14, 2005, 08:16:28 AM »
when I have the chance to get a POT of coffee -- good drip coffee -- I take it.  My new associates seem to think that INSTANT is just as good!  Oh the HORROR!!  :o

I usually offer to make 1/2 a pot for the afternoon -- since there's only 3 of us TAKERS -- but on Friday I came across with -- "no - I'd rather an instant"  :o

I don't mind an instant from time to time -- for me -- Coffee is Coffee -- I'll just take it!

What I don't understand is -- Why NOT have decent coffee when the opportunity is right there slappin' you in the face?    ???

I guess they weren't exposed to Juan Valdez quite as much as we were, eh???

Why favour a VW bug (instant) when you can have a Lexus (fresh ground drip).......made by someone who knows how to make good coffee!!?? doh   :o

It took me a few years to get used to instant coffee but finally last year I broke down and bought a coffee machine. But the problem is I cant find any decent grounds so I ended up packing it away again :(
Where can I get GOOD grounds??

Make sure you're getting Columbian or some other Central American bean.  It's the most similar to what we're used to.

Please spare me your wrath, DUC, but it's time for me to confess.  Yes, I was once a coffee snob who preferred Seattle's Best to Starbuck's and even subscribed to Dean & Delucca's Coffee of the Month.

Now, however, I am guilty as charged.  I drink Nescafe instant and . . . well, it's pretty yummy w/a lot of milk and sugar.

In work we had a can of Cafe Direct instant crystals.  But they tasted bitter to me (it's OK, DUC, you can have a laugh at me), so I went and bought a private jar of Nescafe. :o

I feel better now that's off my chest . . .

I guess I should be happy they're coffee drinkers at all -- I won't go on about the TEA drinkers in the office and how "persnickety" those are about MAKING a cup of tea.

Pebbles -- good grind?  Get a grinder yourself -- that's what I had to do.

Expat in Scotland -- you KNOW you would NEVER come under my wrath - for duuuuh!

Like GreenEyesUK said -- some prefer a Bug rather than a Lexus  ;)

If there's nothing else -- I'll scoop some instant -- but if the opportunity is there for DRIP -- oh yeah!  It's mine! ;D

What grounds are you using?  I guess I have always loved Melita and Illy...  but I like my coffee strong and love expresso...

I only do instant as a night time thing.. the decaf stuff... and if I just want one cup rather than a pot... don't love it, but it's okay..

I didn't realize that about the Kirkland brand. I know it tastes pretty darn good for £3.59 for about a 2 lb. can!!!!!!!!!!

Time for a road trip, me thinks :d

My future in-laws think I'm crazy for not drinking tea.

When I stated my desire to purchase a coffee maker my fiance asked "Why? It's easier to make a cup of instant." I have tried explaining that the aroma of freshly brewing coffee in the morning is akin to hearing angels sing but I don't think he understands. Watching the steam rise off the first cup you pour, sniffing in the heady aroma as you raise the cup to your lips for that first tentative taste......................I will have a coffee maker within the month!

I think the key word here is 'instant'. Slightly off thread, but I've come to realize that Brits like everything as quickly and easily as possible........but if they saw your description of that first cup, you'd think they'd want to try it.........sounds like a coffee orgasm...LOL
