Yorkshire expats??
« on: February 14, 2005, 06:49:15 PM »
Out of curiosity how many on this site are living in Yorks? we are thinking of moving over to Huby? We are in London but slightly afraid that if we make the move we'll be isolated...any thoughts .. how are things up north?
But never fear, gentlemen; castration was really not the point of feminism, and we women are too busy eviscerating one another to take you on.

Gorgeous countryside and endless rolling hills...if you are ready to get away from city life, Yorkshire is a great place to land.

Hi Alicia, welcome to the forum!

Don't be concerned about being isolated - there are lots of Americans in Yorkshire.  There's a get together this Wednesday (it's half term, so we're taking our kids bowling in Castleford).  Huby is near Harrogate, and there is quite an expat community in Harrogate.

Yorkshire is beautiful!  I've lived here 10 years and I love it.
I'm sorry.  I'm just not cool.

Hooray for Yorkshire! It's great!

We moved from London to Ilkley (a medium sized town) last year.  It has been very easy to adjust to our new lives here and we all seem happier and less stressed than we were in London.  We do, however, miss some aspects of London life, but it's only 2.5 hrs away by train, so we do go back every now and again.

We chose to live in a town rather than a small village, as we have young kids and wanted to be able to walk to playgroups/school/the shops/swimming pool etc .... having kids makes it very easy to meet people and make friends and Yorkshire folk are generally very friendly.  I think we may have found village life too big of a jump from London!
