Wow...I love Bay Ridge, but it's too expensive to live there now.  I used to be a frequent visitor of the Wicked Monk for example among other places.  But another reason why i love it is because i'm of my Arabic heritage and it's pretty much an Arabic/Italian neighborhood (with some Russians on the outskirts)  Who would've guessed the combo would mix?!

Wow..an A&W on Hyland Blvd.  Is it near the UA movie theater?  I used to train the managers there back in one of my many jobs at one point.  Oh man...I hope Bill Clinton decides to become mayor.  That Bloomberg is off the hook with all these price/tax increases!!

Well if I lived near the N/R trains i'd leave too.  They're too slow and the platforms get too hot.  I loose count after seeing the third rat on the tracks on how many minutes I have to wait between trains.  Is the fare $2 yet??

Stop it!!!  You're making me miss Brooklyn and here I am trying to live in Dallas!!  ;)

Thanks for being so sweet...I owe you a Caffe Latte now!  To be redeemed at the Dunkin Donuts on 5th and 85th.  Void where prohibited.  Purchase must be accompanied by a coupon from the Century 21 across the street on 86th.  :-*

Merouby I just have one thing to say.....TEXAS?!?! Are you nuts?!?! LOL
Ok Dallas isn't too bad so I guess you're not too insane :P...at least you're not crazy enough to move to Houston.  ;D
Disclaimer- The following statement is only my opinion and obviously millions of people don't agree because they choose to live here. BUT....
Houston is a big steaming hot [smiley=sweatdrop.gif] polluted pit (in fact I do believe it's the 7th pit of hell) that I can't wait to leave.
I've travelled all over Texas and have yet to find one area I'd like to call home.
Calgon take me away!!! And yes..even to Leeds. ;)

Leeds??  ARE YOU CRAZY/MAD!!  Friday Nite I watched a smash-&-grab race off, jump in his car, and pursued by cops.  Man, what a toilet of a city.  Makes NYC look like a town in Kansas crime-wise.

I guess that Houston humidity has gotten a hold of your brain.  I understand, having spent time in New Orleans!!  ;D

What I miss is the 24hr Shoprite under the El on Ave I (where the flea market used to be).  That's literally two blocks from my apt.  I swear half of Brooklyn must shop there.

Yeah, C-21 was my fav as well for designer goods, but I always preferred the one across the WTC.  How does that store make a profit???

Now I will need to seek out alternatives West of the Mighty Mississip!  :D

Today's Thursday and i'm leaving Sunday!!  This is what I did during the day previous:

Called TX...
* call up to make sure telephone service was switched on at my leased apt (while we look for a house to purchase)
* made sure electricity was to be turned on
* spoke to some cool operators who couldn't believe i was calling from England ("but the line is so clear" or "I was gonna say...You don't sound British")

* Made sure I sent the paperwork to the agent to ship my car from the UK to TX
* Called the shop to make sure my car will be ready for picking up tomorrow
* Bought a large envelope to send away the job app for a job in Dallas
* Gave the wife kisses while she said "Pee Off" to me in mock disguist (I sure HOPE it's mock)

I can already feel that hot Dallas sun!

And no one listen to merouby. Leeds is a fantastic city.

He just likes to be negative.

The crime is not worse here than it is anywhere else. The worse thing I've seen since I've been here are the bums begging for money.

Geez man.

Since I just left TX to come to Maltby I guess TX is gaining a Brit and a Yankee and England gained a Texan who is still trying hard to drive on the "right-Left" side of the road.

Enjoy some Pace Picante Sauce and other TX-Mex goodies. At least you're not going to Houston  ;)

Thanks mclupon!!  Gonna be overheating as soon as I step off the plane.

As for Leeds - um, wrong post.  But I invite anyone to go to Leeds and make up their own mind.  There are many nicer cities that aren't that ugly with less crime than Leeds in the UK.

But I wish ASHLEY never leaves LEEDS and stays here forever.  I'm sure she likes it that way.

As a matter of fact, I do.  ;D

I just don't know where you're coming from. Unless of course you're living in Beeston or Chapeltown.

Mo, as you appear to have such a great dislike of Leeds (and possibly all of the UK, but I'm not sure...) I wouldn't be surprised if those who know you in Leeds are glad that you're moving your ass to Texas!!    ;)

Life should NOT be a journey to the
grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well
preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand,
wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and
screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Hi, Mo.

I just wanted to warn you about what you've got in store for you when you come home to the US after a long stay abroad.  The ignorance of Americans regarding Europe in general will irritate you.  The rudeness of the young people will grate on you. You'll see all kinds of things that should be changed and be frustrated that folks don't see the need to change them. And if you talk about any of these, you'll find a deffinite unwillingness to listen among the home folks. That said, you'll also realize that your time outside the US has taught you much more than you ever realized. You may also find it hard to find a job. I had that experience coming home from Poland. With a Ph.D. and great employment record, I was amazed to spend a year temping in very lowly jobs. International experience seems to be a cause for suspicion rather than a desirable thing. I've talked to others who had the same problems, so it's not just me. Good luck.

Donna

Yeah, you're right.  But i'm used to that having went to high school in Vienna then coming back to live in NY.  Job-wise will be a struggle but i anticipate it not being harder than finding a job in say, Newcastle.

For the record, I love the UK - just Leeds is a bit of a downer compared to many of the much nicer UK cities.  Luckly, having lived in other cities I can say this IMHO.

I'm always sorry to hear that an American is moving back.  My experiences, both in the US and here, have (almost) been 100% wonderful.  Still, hope you enjoy going home.
