Lissy, is that what everyone means by a US/NY pizza?

I have only ever seen microwave pizzas like that, never in restaurants.  Though I did accidentally make one once (I didn't have a pizza tray to bake it on, so had to use a deep pie dish!).

I've never been to NY, but the place where I went to college had a pizza place that claimed to be "NY-style" and it definitely wasn't deep dish!  It was just really huge flat slices of pizza (this place sold by the slice as well.)  It tasted great though- if real NY pizza is anything like that I'll be very excited when we visit NYC next month!

YES!!!! I lived in RI which has a huge Italian population, and a gazillion pizzerias, all allegedly excellent. But my fave was the Greek stuff!  ;D

Giordano's looks more like a deep-dish Chicago style pizza.

New York pizza looks like this:

Mmmmmm, New York style pizza!  <drools>

I used to like Chicago style a long time ago, but then I got converted to NY style!  Chicago style seems like waaaay too much bread now.

Here I like Pizza Express and a place in Leeds called Felicini (which DH thinks it sounds like something naughty - go figure ::) )...but neither is NY style pizza.

We used to have a takeaway pizza place here on our street that we liked, then it changed owners, and now it sucks.  We've ordered Dominos a couple of times, but the last time that sucked too.  Now, unless we're eating out in city centre (see PE or F reference above), DH's homemade pizza is the only one for me!  :)

Okay, in which case, from the looks of it, mosy pizza places (non chains) I have been to do NY style pissas, and they don't seem to differ that much from Italian pizzas...thin crust, hand tossed, tomato sauce and mozerella.  So what am I missing?  What is different from the New York pizza to the pizza I get in La Porcetta?

New York pizzas have a thicker, doughier crust, more sauce, and more cheese. Closer to what you'd get in Naples. Sicilian-style pizzas are square, thicker crust like focaccia, less sauce and cheese.

But that wikipedia site says that there is less sauce and cheese and a thin crust!  I am confused!

I would like a Giordano's in Peterborough, missing their pizza, proper deep dish.

:\\\'(  Was that photo really necessary?

Chicago, New York, Italian, Greek, who cares? All are good!  And all are better than what I can get in our town: Dominos.

Mind you, Dominos is a big improvement on the only kind we had here before (kebabs and pizza).  On the day they opened the Dominos I made my husband do a U turn and go back.  They weren't even delivering yet, but were happy to sell me one of their first pizzas out of the oven.
