Money & Fiancee visa
« on: February 18, 2005, 05:09:31 PM »
Hello All,

Is there a minimum amount of income my sponsor should make. I am planning on applying for my Fiancee visa in person at the Chicago Embassy & was concerned about this. Is there an exact amount they look for? Do they take into account my earning potential?

Thanks ahead of time for any help.

There is no set amount.  They're looking to see that your sponsor can support you until you can work.  They also want to see reasonable accomodation.  If you have substantial savings, that doesn't hurt either!   ;)

I have this same sort of question - except what if your fiancee was a student and lived with his parents? would the person just have to prove that his parents were financially able to support you if you were goin to live with them once you were married because of him being a student? thanks for your help

I'm afraid not.  His parents can co-sponsor you and offer to give support or a place to live until you both get on your feet.  But in the main, you and he need to be able to support yourselves fully, without recourse to public funds.

Of course, if you are getting married as soon as you arrive, you will have the option of showing how *you* can work to support the both of you.

The bit they are mostly worried about is the period between your arrival, and you being able to work.  You need to show that you'll be able to support yourself for that period especially.

I hope that helps!
