Braxton Hicks
« on: February 21, 2005, 02:42:57 PM »
Hi,

I'm hitting the 33 week mark of my second pregnancy and have been having TONS of Braxton Hicks contractions.  I don't recall anything like it with my first.  Is it more common to have more practice contractions with subsequent pregnancies. or was I just oblivious to it the first time around?!?

From my understanding, it is more common to have more practise contrax and earlier in the pregnancy after the first baby.  Everyone's different, have to say that, too! :)

I was into maternity clothes, got practise contrax earlier and gained more weight with pregnancy after my first baby.

How exciting for you!  I love babies.

Sometimes, excessive BHs can be a result of dehydration, just a thought, too, good to drink a lot of pure water!

In my experience the BH contractions were definitely more noticeable in my 2nd and especially the 3rd pregnancy. Some were quite strong - strong enough that they made me wonder! I also felt them much earlier, around the 30th week if I recall correctly. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!  :)

What a coincidence - two of my friends who are expecting their second babies were having this exact same discussion today!  They are both due at the end of April and say they've each been having far more Braxton-Hicks than with the first.  You're not alone!

I had TONS during my first pregnancy.  It was sooo weird to see the bump go all hard.  But in a way I'm glad I did b/c then when I had REAL contractions I could tell they were not Braxton-Hicks.
