Switching work permits question
« on: February 21, 2005, 09:46:37 PM »
Anyone have an idea how the process is if I want to switch work permits?  That is, I currently have a 5 year work permit sponsored by my employer, but am thinking about switching jobs, in the UK. On the immigration website, it implies that it's an easy, and quick, process that requires no new information about me since I've already been approved to be here.  Any ideas out there?

Well, all I know is that if you leave your job, then your work permit goes with it.  So, if you go on an interview and the company wants to hire you, then they have to go through somewhat of a lengthy process for it because they have to prove why you are the best candidate for them.  I don't know how much work you will have to do though.

Switching from one WP sponsor to another is commonplace and would take about a week if everything's in order.  I used to do it all the time back when I had work permits.  It's fun!

Despite your concerns, there's not much you can do to speed it up or make it happen - in fact, you're really out of the picture.  It's up to your new sponsor to submit the paperwork.  When it comes through, give notice to your old sponsor, and that's that.
