Hello everyone,
It's still a few months until we need to apply for my gf's UP visa, but I've been looking at the form for prepare and am unsure about a few things.
My girlfriend (the applicant) and I (the sponsor) are going to be moving to the UK at the same time. I'm a dual US/UK citizen, but have lived in the US for all but one year of my life. We've been living together in the US for nearly 3 years now.
My current plan is that we would fly over to England to secure a flat, come back to finish up our jobs and pack and all that, leave our current apt and go stay with my parents in NY for a while, apply for the visa while there, then fly out from NY.
Technically, when we go in for our appointment, we'll be between residences. We will have moved out of our US place but not yet moved in to our UK one. But when we fill out the fasttrack application, we'll be in our US place. What would we put for each of our residences? Would we put the US one for both of us? If they need to reach her between the online application and the appointment, that's the contact information they'll need. However, by the time she's standing in front of the officer, that address will not be her "permanent address" as is asked for on the form.
Is it going to be a problem that I will not have a UK address as my (the sponsor) address? We will have a lease for the place we are going to, but I don't think that would qualify it as my permanent address at that point. Or would it?
Also, the form asks whether the sponsor is employed in the UK and for employer details. At the time of the application, I will have a job offer (if I don't have a job offer, we won't be moving or making the application) but there seems to be no way to report on a job about to start.
Basically, all these questions are brought up because we are moving together and I will have neither estabished home or job in the UK, and it seems that the form is hard to complete to show this.
Oh also, what kind of evidence can one provide to support that a previous cohabitation has broken up? The form asks about the sponsor's previous relationships akin to marriage and advice says to provide evidence of its breaking down. I lived with my now-ex from 1994 through 1998 in a relationship akin to marriage, and from 1998 through 2000 just as friends/housemates. I'm still very good friends with her, so I can't show that she's gone from my life. And how do I prove that we broke up in 1998? I can't even imagine what evidence I could give. Maybe just a letter from her?? Letters from friends?
I seem unable to ask things in a brief post, so I bolded my main questions. Thanks to anyone who got through it all.
