dual citizenship baby
« on: March 04, 2005, 06:53:27 PM »
We are expecting our 1st child within the next 8 weeks, and me being American (I am here on Spouses visa/ residence permit) and my DH being British will make our baby half of each.
We are already planning to go down to the American Embassy in London to register the birth, get her social security card number, and apply for her american passport, which will make her an American citizen.  The part that I am unsure of is:  After she is born, we have to register her birth at our local registrars office to receive a birth certificate, does that automatically make her a British citizen, or do we need to go thru IND Home Office??

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet,
enough friends to give you comfort,
enough wealth to meet your needs,
enough trials to make you strong,
enough sorrow to keep you human,
enough hope to make you happy,
and enough determination to make each day
better than yesterday.

Your husband is British and your baby is being born here so she will automatically be a British citizen.
