I'm planning on giving Jenni my passport and birth certifcate when she's visting me in the UK in May, hopfully I won't need my pasport between then and October when she moves.

This is what we did. My fiance gave me his documents on a visit: passport, bankbook, tenancy agreement, paystubs, divorce papers, the works. I returned them on my next visit.

I was just thinking of sending the other documenst by post closer to the time. Thought it might be a bit soon for palslips and bank statements, as she's visting in May and applying in September.

we've just used royal mail ceritfied and signed for about 8 pounds
it's monitored closely and never lost track of
someone is responsible for it all times and there is absolutely no way for it to get lost
very very reassuring for both of us
i guess it can take 2 weeks but we got it in 1 week and a day
there's nothing wrong with generalizing ~ everybody does it

Actually, our experience with royal mail certified was the exact opposite.  Sure it's monitored and tracked while it is in the UK, but as soon as it hits US land, the Royal Mail have no claim on it or way of making sure it gets to it's intended destination.

My husbands documents were all "lost" in Miami Airport for about two weeks before they finally showed up.  Not a fun time for us!   :-\\\\

I'd recommend you either get someone like UPS, DHL, or FedEx to delivery your documents, or just post them by regular Royal Mail.  Nothing I've sent by regular mail has ever gotten lost!
