Newly married: What name do I put on the VAF2/FLR form?
« on: March 07, 2005, 05:42:30 PM »
Question:  I am newly married, and my passport, etc are in my maiden name.  What name should I use on my VAF2 form?

Put your new last name, or whichever name you wish to be known by henceforth in the UK.  The marriage certificate links your passport to your application and to your visa; and the whole shooting match is in their files anyway.  Use your new name forevermore on all subsequent applications and forms in the UK, and amend your US passport in due course...  Hope that helps!  ;)

Note:  this was not directly asked in the forum, but should help clear up some pm's...  :-X

Why would they treat a VAF2 spouse application differently from a FLR(M) spouse application? Just wondering as I did put my new married name on the FLR(M) but the stamp in my passport is under my old name. Is this one of the little quirks of the system?

Can you apply for FLR(M) in your maiden name and then have the your name amended later if you desire?

Of course.  There is no hard and fast rule, my suggestion only follows recent IND guidelines, which are informal...
