I'm going to be in Baltimore near the end of the month for a work trip - can anyone recommend any restaurants I should try?

Yup!

Paper Moon (diner style, very funky, great all day breakfasts, open all night I think, bit off the beaten path)
Helmand (amazing Afghan restaurant run by the brother of Hamid Karzai, I highly recommend the pumpkin appetizer)
Loco Hombre or Nacho Mamas or Austin Grill for tex/mex

Try this for some ideas:

I'll post again... need to email my friend who's up on the newer places. Any particular type of cuisine you're interested in? Do you know what part of town you'll be in?

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

It must be wierd to move to the UK and then have to go to the US for work trips.  I have to go to DC next week for 3 days.  At least I get to visit friends!

Is that northeast Baltimore City or getting into Baltimore County?  I ask because the best Mexican restaurant on the planet (or at least the Baltimore metro area) is in Carney/Parkville called El Salto in North Plaza Mall off Perring Parkway.

If you're city dining I'd go with Balmerhon, the Charles Street/York Road corridor from North Baltimore down to the
Inner Harbor/Downtown area are probably your best bets.  There's also a diner called Valentino's off Belair Road (I think) in northeast Baltimore near the city/county line I believe.  It's been ages since I'v ebeen there.

Also, the Bel Loch Diner off Loch Raven Blvd. just inside the Beltway is pretty good and famous for being the diner in the movie, Diner.

If you can get to Annapolis there are some great softshell crab restaurants there. Also wonderful, quaint scenery. The only thing I know about Baltimore itself is the Bay and Camden Yards.
