What is the "crema layer" they're talking about? Is it just frothed coffee? Is there dried milk or cream in the pod with the ground coffee? Do you add milk after? How fattening is a cup of Senseo coffee?

It's just normal coffee... there's nothing else in it.
Its just that the machine is pressurised, so it makes the crema layer, like you would get with espresso or whatever.
I like a sweet coffee, so put condensed milk in the cup before filling it with coffee.

OMG... it is killer!  ;D
Just make sure you stir it up really well, or you just end up with a lump of sweetness at the bottom of the cup.

How persuadable am I?!? You've all talked me into buying a Senseo! Yaye! I ordered it this a.m.!  :)  I got a new one from eBay for £19.99!!! Plus P+P, of course, but still a good deal. There's at least one more for that price on eBay if anyone else is interested. I think they're demo models or floor models or something, but haven't been owned before.

I see that you can buy permanent reuseable pods to put regular coffee in, instead of buying new pods all the time. Has anyone done this? I have to have decaf coffee, so if I buy new pods, I'm restricted to only one flavour -- plain old coffee. I have no problem with that, but it's a bit tempting when you read about all the other pod flavours and know that you can't have them 'cause they're all caffeinated.

Any recommendations? (condensed milk suggestion already gleefully taken on board!)

Wow, that is cheaper then I got it Belindaloo!!!  Mine was a floor model too, but works perfectly!!!  I didn't have any of the pods though, so you might want to run out and get some in case they don't have them.  I just ordered the reuseable pods from the USA ebay site since I am going there on Sat.  I also bought bags and bags of pods.  Decaf too, cause I am trying to cut down!  (My one stinking vice :-\\\\)

I have flavoured syrups that I buy at the grocery store in the coffee isle, perks up the flavour big time!  I also just bought a ton of low carb stuff including sugar-free syrups, so I'll let you all know about that too!

I can see how easy it is to get obsessed. I don't even have my Senseo yet, but I'm already going nuts looking for flavoured decaf pods. The only ones I've found so far are from a US site: http://podhead.com/senseo_Ae-Sensation_coffee_pods.html  -- they're getting back to me with international shipping rates. If it turns out to be too expensive, I'll just have them sent to a friend in the US and she can pop them in my next care package!

Has anyone found flavoured decaf pods in the UK?

I don't know that it's a Senseo brand, but I bought one through Gevalia.  They sell the most FANTASTIC coffee, and have just started selling pods and pod brewers.  The deal is, you pay $29 and they send you four boxes of pods (and they have TEA pods as well!!) and the coffee brewer.  You don't have to ever buy anything else again, but you are on a subscription thingie where they will continue to send you pods on YOUR set schedule.  I was a member years ago and totally loved their coffee.  Simon is a regular drinker and I have to have decaf, so I thought this would be perfect for us.

And yes, this is one appliance I will try to take with me when I go and run it on a converter!!!  :)

EDIT:  By the way - if you were to buy the pod brewer out of their catalog, it would be $79!!!!  What a deal!   ;D

I just got me a senseo yesterday.  The website above (typicaldutch..) has so many choices.  Which type of pods do people recommend.  I am using the medium roast that came with it and it's a little weak.
