Pancake syrup disaster
« on: March 15, 2005, 12:20:35 PM »
My mom sent me a massive box of American food which arrived this morning. The postman told me to be careful because there's something sticky on the box. I knew it had to be the pancake syrup! My mother whose heart is sometimes bigger than her brain packed tons of American cookies, cakes, cereals, etc and against the side of the box she put in a squeezy bottle of pancake syrup. The bottle was completey empty. Everything was covered in sticky smelly syrup. I had to take everything out of its package and throw the packages away. One thing we got was some Nutter Butter peanut butter things but they werent the normal cookies. They were like wafers with peanut butter in them. Something new that must have come out while I was living here. I dont know what theyre called because the package was covered in syrup and it went straight in the bin. So now I have bags and bags of marshmallow cereals, velveeta shells n cheese, instant puddings, goldfish crackers and lots of little debbie snacks all in tupperware containers. Thank goodness for good ole tupperware!

I can just imagine the sticky mess. At least the ants didn't get to it before you did!

My mother puts anything like that that she sends in a sealed bag just so that doesn't happen!

Of course, she gets a little carried away with what she seals up... ::)

I had a Greek flatmate who's mother sent her greek honey (Maria adored honey). Our Uni office hated her though because the honey spilled and got all over everyone else's mail!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Sounds like my mum.  Even the simplest letter or card has the envelope sealed with masking tape.  Anything that might get bashed has about 200 yards of bubble wrap around it AND masking tape.

Well im not sure really if the box was opened at customs because it was taped and then taped over with US Postal Service tape. Maybe the USPS is repsonsible. I just refuse to believe my mother would do something so stupid.

That's probably what happened.  Some idiot didn't put the syrup back in the baggie before they resealed the box.

I'm going to Florida next week.  You're taken care of, no worries.  Star Crunch will be on their way to you shortly after my return the following week!  ;)

A bit ot but thought I'd pass the idea along: I had a friend send me over a container of mapleline. I just made the best syrup last week with it! And I don't have to wait for syrup this way :)
I know I'm late - where's the booze?
