I cant recall seeing it in supermarkets in my area, but they sell it at petrol stations, and also at DIY shops like Homebase and B&Q.

If I were to bring a gas grill with me, would the connections on the tank be the same?  I don't want to buy one then not be able to find propane tanks for it once I get there (England).

No the connection is not the same. You would probably need to change the the(regulator) connection on the hose.
