Lychees........
« on: March 17, 2005, 03:46:52 PM »
Do you love em or hate em?

First time i had one was in a curry and i almost vomited.  the consistency was SO NASTY and i had no idea what it was.  DHs friends laughed at my reaction

Last night at dinner with friends we had Lychees and vanilla ice cream....and that was quite nice, but i can't get over the way they look like mini bollocks and the consistency!!!!!

I've never had them in a curry....

We got some canned ones one year at Halloween and stuck blueberries in the middle of them, then floated them in red punch for a creepy Halloween drink.....eyeballs in blood..... :o :o :o

Love 'em! I can eat them by the bushel, seriously. My dad's family is Mauritian, so whenever I'm there I always get served all I can eat ... and that's a lot! I've learned to eat them the Mauritian way -- you pop one in your mouth, bite down and spit out the shell. No hands!  ;)

The ones I've found here at Tesco actually aren't too bad, though nothing beats fresh ones bought by the side of the road.

It's similar to a rambutan  ;D No it's a little white fruit that is encased inside a pink bobbly skin. It's got quite a strong scent and tastes like .... mmm hard to describe but it tates kind of exotic fruity in a peachy kind of way.  Texture is slippery.  A lot of Chinese restaurants have them on the menu if you want to try or you can get a can from most supermarkets.

I've never had one in a curry!!! what kind of a curry Aimiloo?

I imagine it would put me off both lychees AND curries!  :P

I don't know what the boak is, but I can imagine I would get it too.  Lychees and curry, not so much :-X

I'm half-Indian, and I've never heard of putting lychees in a curry. May be a regional thing, though. My family generally has them for dessert just as is.

I'm wondering if curry with lychee might be Thai instead?  ???

It just sounds like a MISTAKE to me, in any cuisine!

I always thought lychees had a floral scent and taste. Like a peachy rose, with the consistency of a muscadine.
