A new home in America
« on: March 17, 2005, 06:26:26 PM »
Hello everyone!  Well, as you may (or may not) know, I came back to the states ahead of DF, who will be joining me in April.  We decided to live state-side to be near my parents, who are ill at the moment.

Anyhow, I've been staying with the folks and commuting to Seattle for work everyday (about 2 hours one way).  Well, in anticipation of Paul's arrival, I've been apartment hunting.  And I found one!  It is an A-mazing apartment on the edge of downtown (Capitol Hill area for you Seattle-ites).  It's an 8 block walk to my litterally "downtown" office location and is a GREAT 1927 building with all of the origional fixtures.  It looks just like it would have in the day, and the kitchen is terrific (I love to cook).

I am so happy that our first home together in the states (and as man and wife come May) is someplace nice and that I love, rather than a rat-hole that will make do.  We plan to return to my home town (Cle Elum) in a couple of years, but at least while we are living in the city, we will be living in a great place with loads of character and charm!

Yeah!!  I'm so very happy and can not wait until I have keys in hand on April 1...and a short while later Paul will be here to enjoy my cooking on our new stove!

Just wanted to share my happy news...

Congratulations!

Can i ask about Cle Elum?  The name seems a bit strange  to me... is it Latin?

I'm guessing American Indian? .....
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Cle Elum is Kittitas Indian (a subset of the Yakima tribe) and means "Swift Waters".  If you've seen the show "Northern Exposure", you've seen Cle Elum / Roslyn (we are two towns working together as one; one school, three policemen, one grocery store and about 2000 people).

I'm so glad someone asked this, I have been intrigued by the name. How does one pronounce it correctly ? In my head it's "clay aloome"!

Thanks!  It really is fabby, and if I have to live in the big-bad-city, at least it is a great place!  I just know that Paul is going to like it, too!

Glad you found a good one, Frances.  I felt the same fond feelings for the last flat I had in Denver - in Cap Hill.  The Lori Apartments, a lovely Art Deco building complete with original features.  Enjoy your time there!
