Favourite Pint? Bitter, Ale, Lager or Shandy?
« on: March 18, 2005, 09:34:08 AM »
I've always been fond of British beer, so one of the things that's been fun as a newcomer to England is trying the various bitters and ales.  When I go to the pubs, I generally look for something local, or at least something hand-pumped.  But from the grocery I've been trying a different brand each week...now that we've been here for six months, I have found some favourites.  I wonder what others are buying, or are you still drinking lager?

My favourites:
     Wells Bombadier
     Green King Abbott Ale
     Old Speckled Hen
     Badger Tanglefoot
     Shephard Neames Spitfire

How about you?

As a card-carrying member of CAMRA, I agree with your choices!

I like almost anything that comes from the Wychwood Brewery, Badger, Adnams...my very favourite is one that is served at local beer festivals called Nelson's Blood Extra, which is 7%!  ;)

Never having 'appreciated' any kind of beer/lager, etc. before... and I still can't bring myself to a Guinness; just barely a Newcastle Brown...
My absolute favourite is Boddington's.  Sad that so few places seem to serve it!  It's the 'Cream of Manchester!'

Brains Dark Mild is one of the best dark milds.

Titanic Stout is another good one.

And I love my Guinness!  ;D

After a field hockey game I tend to start out with my Shandy...then move to the lagers.  I like Bitters but they tend not to like me.  And love Guinness once in a while (like last night!).

I'm a Cider girl, though I could not tell you which kinds I like.  I just ask the nice boys for a cider and they appear ;D

Löwenbräu on tap.  It's hard to find on tap, but by God is it good.

Yeah, I used to be able to do that with money... but alas, no longer.

Most London pubs only offer Blackthorn or Strongbow. I can't drink Blackthorn, sends me psycho!

There is a pub in the Cotswolds somewhere that was frequented by the author Laurie Lee and they have a special cider in honour of him, flavoured with honey. Very nice but they will only serve it by the half pint because it is so strong.

It's gotta be from the Cider Bus or nothing especially different types they have (pear , sweet)...I tend not to have pub cider ...I'm not a fan of Strongbow.

Is Cripple *bleep* cider still around? I never could resist asking for that.
