Otterpop:  Mmmmm - my hub makes a mean Thai green curry, but with chicken.  On salmon, he does kind of a mustardy curry thing -- his former Indian housemate taught him to make.  It might be a Bengali thing - I forget what he said.  Apparently, it's traditionally made in India with some type of river fish.


Yeah, the mustard seeds are a Bengali thing... i dont like them, unfortunately!  :(
My DH just buys a jar of Sainsbury's green thai curry sauce, and then he tarts it up with extra chillies, coconut milk, and more spices.    It's quick, easy, and farrrrr more delicious than it sounds!!

Otterpop -- he does it with a hot mustard oil (no seeds in it).  Is it just the seeds you don't like, or the mustard flavor altogether?

It's the mustard flavour altogether, im afraid!
Mustard does not enter my body in any shape or form...  :-X   ;)

Well I must say that I'm not a big mustard fan myself -- it's good on some things sometimes.

My bean/ham soup & cornbread last night didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped.  The soup needed something -- more spice or flavor -- forget how I did it the time before but it was good.

Johnny cake recipe was one I'd found on the net -- not one that I'd used & had success with before (that's in a cookbook in storage in Florida!).  Oh well.

Ready for hubby to take over cooking for the weekend!

The usual boring Sunday roast dinner. A brisket, mashed potatoes, cauliflower, York. puddings with Bisto gravy...yadda, yadda, yadda.........yawn. Its always the same on Sunday. Frank cooks it so I dont really complain.

Tonight it was home-made chicken soup & garlic bread.
The house smelled soooo good, as i have had the chicken stock on the go since about 11 this morning!

i didn't cook tonight, went out for mexican.  :)

i should cook tommorow night as hubs had a tough weekend.  maybe i'll make the jambalaya again?  i dunno.

Britwife – How do you make your homemade spaghetti sauce?  Where did you get the recipe or learn how to do it like that?

Pebbles – Roast teas are yummy!  That's what we had too.

otterpop – Love it when the good cooking smells waft through the house.  Also when you're baking.  (Well I don't know if you bake, but you know what I mean.)

Jambalaya’s good, also bangers & chips, and pizza (innit that one of the main food groups?).

My spag sauce I just figured out over time. I might have used a recipe when I first started but I can't remember.  It's quite easy.  This is enough for two people:

Fry half a chopped onion. When softened add one crushed garlic clove and two or three chopped celery stalks and fry a little more. Pour over a tin of chopped tomatoes and half a can of water. Add a large bay leaf and simmer to reduce the liquid.  If the celery is not yet soft, add more water and keep reducing until it is.  Add 2 level teaspoons of brown sugar and salt & freshly ground pepper to taste.  Stir in chopped fresh parsley and a generous dollop of tomato paste so that the sauce has a nice rich red colour and a thick consistency - warm the sauce for a few minutes  and voila!  Nice with freshly grated parmesan.  I have also made it with meat (minced beef)  for my husband but even he, a devout carnivore, said it tastes better without.

We had a veggie omelet & bacon on toast.  Not the healthiest choice but oh, so good!

Britwife -- Thanks for that!  I have trouble just cooking for two -- I was brought up to always cook enough to feed a small army, which my Brithub has trouble understanding.  I dunno - maybe it's a Midwestern/Southern thing?  I kinda figured out a spag sauce recipe when I was about 13/14, then I had an New York (Long Island) Italian 'mamma' (not really my mom) in Florida who sort of showed me how to cook sauce like her family does (again the army thing figures in here...well that or a bunch of Long Island Italian gavones!).

Ok so I'm back on kitchen duty today & need to figure out something for tonight?  (Btw...hub's Sunday 'roast' yesterday was actually a piece of lamb but I thought it was beef the way that he made it!)
