It's easy. You ring up and speak to someone who has English as their 3rd or 4th language. You repeat your order 20 0000 times and your address 50 0000 times, and spell out the street name v-e-r-y s-l-ow-l-y. Then you wait. And wait. And wait. After an hour you get a call from the delivery guy. He is lost and is 26 miles away. Finally he arrives at about 10.30pm with your chow mein/pizza/ curry which is now cold and congealed but will taste ok in the morning.  ;D

Hmmm, think I'll have eggs tonight then ;D :P

Would one of you kind ladies perhaps post your homemade chicken & dumplings recipe? I'm feeling a craving coming on - I haven't had that in ages, but it sounds SO GOOD!!!

Eek! I've made it for so many years I don't even use a recipe really. I may not be much help to you. :-\\\\ There are loads of recipes online. It's really simple to make actually.

I just boil some whole chicken pieces (skin and bone still on) with some onion and celery...sometimes a little carrot but not too much. When the chicken is done. I take it out and remove the skin and bone and put the chopped up chicken meat back into the stock. Then I add salt and pepper to taste and a small pinch of poultry seasoning. Let it simmer for a bit longer while making the dumplings.

For the dumplings if you want to do it the easy way just use bisquick. The recipe is usually on the side of the box. But for homemade ones you can use this recipe....

2 C All-purpose flour
1/2 t Baking soda
1/2 t Salt
3 T Shortening
3/4 C Buttermilk

Combine the flour, baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon salt; cut in the shortening with a pastry blender or two knives until mixture is consistency of coarse meal. Add the buttermilk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead 4 or 5 times -- no more.

For drop dumplings, pat the dough down to a 1/4-inch thickness, and pinch off 1-1/2-inch pieces.

For rolled dumplings, roll the dough to a 1/4-inch thickness, and cut into 3" x 1" strips.

Bring the chicken broth to a boil. Correct seasonings, if desired.

Drop dumplings, one or two at a time, into the boiling broth and reduce heat to medium-low. Stir from time to time to make sure dumplings do not stick together. Cook dumplings 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat.

For a tougher dumpling omit the soda and shortning and prepare the same.  I also use 1/2 buttermilk (Which BTW I could not find in the UK?????) and 1/2 stock. Mix the same and roll and cut into strips.  This texture gives more a noodle like consistency....if in a bind though you can used canned biscuts (Do they have them in the UK???
Also flour tortillas make nice dumplings in a pinch when you want to be lazy.

tom yum is a thai soup, hot and sour.

Yorkshire pud - just make up a batter like you would for pankcakes and shove it in the oven for about 20 minutes.  Or you can buy forzen ones in the supermarket.
