They were the band that Mother Love Bone morphed into before the members formed Pearl Jam and Soundgarden.  They had a marginal hit with "Hunger Strike".  I keep forgetting that I listened to a lot of alternative stuff back in the 90s - when it was still alternative and not widely known.  Oops.

I promise from now on I will stick to very popular groups!  ;)

Yes, I even double-checked that they were well-known in the UK!  I'll leave an easy clue, then I think it's time for me to bow out since I'm doing such a lousy job at this game.  :P

They have the #9 downloaded song on iTunes (UK version) as of about five minutes ago.
