It was Dinosaur Jr.  ;) No idea about your clue yet... I'll have to think about it. Meanwhile, I will copy and paste it so someone else can answer if they get it first:

I was thinking Willie Nelson.  If it's "THEY" then it must be a band...

How about giving us a hint on the genre?  Blues, Rockabilly, Country...HMMM Mid or late 50s to present...They must be ancient!  LOL!

Your thinking is spot on!

There was no 'they' in my clue. 'they' in my reply to refered to my clues not being good, not the music...  :) cuz he is good!

But using proper cryptic clues... short William = Willie, in Traflagar Square = Nelson's statue and meets = 1st clue joins/links up with 2nd clue

All you future Life in the UK testers take note  ;D I think there is a question like that in there.

Your go julie.bug

There's nothing wrong with your clues.  Let's see if I can think of something here.

Skeletal tissue that's tugged on at Thanksgiving after cremation- 1969-Present but definitely 70s!

I couldn't get Lou Rawls out of the brain for some reason!

Last name of an American Poet, an inland body of water, and a famous golfer.

don't worry... as for the grey matter I think they can rejuvenate a little

woman's undergarment where branch joins tree         90's onwards
revised  woman's undergarment where branch once joined tree         90's onwards

Divide the clue up if you can, for this one try woman's undergarment    where branch once joined tree
 Name a few undergarments
what is term where a branch was attached to a tree
Have a go and pop back and I'll give you a few more pointers if needed
