Please help, need munchie ideas!
« on: July 20, 2003, 10:56:29 AM »
I am hoping that you folks can help me.  I'm having a surprise party for my husband in two weeks - his 50th birthday party.  I had a BBQ a couple of weeks ago and made salsa, guacamole, California Onion Dip (have the soup mix) and Hidden Valley Ranch Dip with chips, tortilla chips and veggies.  As all the guests were English (well duh, LOL) these goodies just sat there!  Last nite a friend of mine (English) had a party and had me make salsa and guac - no one touched them.  I was careful and kept them mild.  I don't have a clue what to serve at Derek's party!  It'll be an all day and into the night type deal and I don't want people to be disappointed as some of them are driving quite far.  What kind of munchies can I fix that will last all day?
Thank you for your help!

Sausage rolls
Mince pies
any sort  of small pies

cucumber and cheese sandwiches

anything with cucumbers in it is normally  a winner.

Tuna fish salad..prawn salad. Coleslaw.

Loads of things you can do..

I agree with this...a few years back when My Mum (MIL) threw us a little engagement party at her flat she had these, and they were snapped up immediately, especially the mini sausage rolls...I believe she got them at Tesco's.
She also got some Scotch eggs, I think, and cheese and pineapple on toothpicks..stuff like that.

Yep..scotch eggs good and the cheese is good idea..forgot about that.

can have fun and make Faggots...ask hubby what they are..

bellybuttons

1 package of  sliced of ham...thin sandwich ham
3 bunchs of green onion. or more depending on how many you are going to make
1 large container of cream cheese

Directions..

Soften cream cheese till it is same as like soft butter.

Take 1 slice of ham...spread on the cream cheese..and

..place 1 green onion on edge of ham ..Then roll ham slice into a tube shape..then Slice ham into 1/2 inches bite size peice...IT is a real good winner..called Belly Buttons.

Chicken wings..always a good nibble bit.. if you got a deep fat fryer only takes 8 minutes or so to do a basket full. and can allow them to cool.

I catered my own wedding..so I HAVE loads of ideas.

A healthy option is fruit kabobs....there's tons of fresh fruit in season and people love how pretty the kabobs look when you get a good variety of color going on.  Plus they are very easy to eat while wandering around talking, etc.

Wishstar's right about the fruit kebabs. They go over great usually. I used to do catering and one of the most popular trays we did was the fruit kebab tray. It was really simple to put together too. We just took mini skewers and on each one put a purple grape, a pineapple chunk, a marachino cherry, a mandarin orange slice and a green grape. Then arranged them on a round tray. It's colourful and tastes really great. Everyone from the kids to the adults love them.  :)
