locke's father was evil, but his mother was horrid as well for setting the whole thing up!

anyone else driven nuts by the amount of adverts during lost? i guess i've been in this country for too long, but i have less and less patience for commercials and there seem to be loads of them for lost.... almost worth taping so i can skip through the commercials!

Why do a set up? for a kidney?  Meaning, he was their son, but they were such sociopaths that after bringing him [back] into their lives, befriending, him, and even after him handing over a kidney to his real father, they just bailed?  Just because?  Just because they're evil?  Or is their some other reason?
...that I have to wait til season 2 for?  ::)

I think Locke's father is going to be more important in the future!

I think it was the other way around. Locke's father got the mother in on a deal to make Locke think that he'd found his lost long father. The guy went out of his way to bring Locke into his life and make him feel like his "son". After doing this he "accidentally" had Locke come around at just the time he was having dialysis so Locke would know his father needed a new kidney (and, hopefully, for the father, offer one of his own - which he did). After  Locke's father got the kidney he had no more use for Locke and left.

Basically an evil, manipulative man I think is what the show is trying to get across. Does that make sense at all? ?

Edited to add: Are you sure he's not the guy from 1-Adam12 ? I thought he was as well . . .  *going to Google*

Kevin Tighe ....  Paramedic Roy DeSoto

I knew it was Kevin Tighe, as I've seen him in loads since "Emergency" - so as said, I just got me 70's shows mixed up.

Yes, what you explained makes sense... BUT... are you saying he is NOT really Locke's father?  Then I will buy that he's just evil.  But if he IS Locke's father, and he just bailed after his own son gave him a frickin' kidney... I need more than just 'he's evil'.  Ya know?

(Martin Milner was the blonde from Adam 12... both shows had a dark/light duo... ala Starsky & Hutch, Dukes, etc.)

There might be as the season runs on but that's what i got from it. If it was just some guy how in the world would he know he and Locke had a tissue match? If it really was his father he would know he had a son and could then take steps to find out if they were a match.

I gotcha now! Yep . . . it pains me to say I can remember watching those shows . . . Randolph Mantooth - used to wonder if that was his REAL name ? ? ?

Ah, spot on about the tissue matching... so he had to be his dad.  I just know with JJ Abrams, there's GOT to be more.  People aren't just evil.  Even if it is for a kidney.  K, now I sound silly.

DO NOT LET IT PAIN YOU ;)  Let us be proud and priviliged we can remember!  Re:  Randy Mantooth... didn't we all?  And I still said I would change my last name if he ever asked :) - (when I was ten - HUGE crush) - and he's also aged quite well  :)
