Spousal Visa
« on: April 16, 2005, 01:53:37 PM »
I am a resident(landed not yet a citizen) of Canada for  the last 10yrs now last year April 2004  got married to a British citizen (naturalized??) whom i have known for along time while i was in Britain on a visitor visa!  i have applied for a settlement/spousal visa for me and my son who's dad was a British citizen at the time of birth which makes him a British citizen by descent??. i know he qualifies for a British passport but i just went on and applied for this visa anyway!

I just want to know if the evidence of funds is just a formality or is it VERY important? are  there any spousal privileges when it comes to funds? do i even have a chance of getting the visa?

my husbands is employed and makes about 20,000/annually. I couldn't work as i was pregnant but i do have savings of about 1,000(not much i know).. does this help at all? or can i expect a refusal?

I am worried sick about this visa.. its all i think about. i really want to be with my husband in UK... we rent a 1 bedroom flat andare currently on the waiting list forr a 2bdrm house...

Has anyone who applied fo a spousal settlement visa been refused based on funds? we have everything else they want from us its the funds part that worries me to death. we got married in UK... We have a UK marriage certificate. we have been married for a year now... but only stayed together for a few months because i had to leave b4 my visa expired!

people tell me that its just a formality when applying for a spousal settlement visa? i have no funds/savings of my own....!!!

any replies will be greatly appreciated!

Don't worry!! I applied and received a fiancee visa with no trouble. I had less savings then you and my fiancee's income was less than your husbands. I did show my own work history to show I was "employable" --- there was really no trouble and a fiancee visa is a bit harder than a spouse visa since I wasn't eligible work. So relax--- it will be fine  ;D

When we applied for my husbands spousal visa in February, our financial situation was not as good as yours, i was on full benefits for me and my son and we had very little savings. I was very concerned about it but they really didn't seem bothered.

The only thing i would say is that they were interested in knowing that we would be living in a two bedroom flat...1 bedroom for my son and one bedroom for us. (my tenancy agreement didn't specify how many bedrooms there were). I'm not exactly sure what the rules are on where you live but worth looking into.

stay safe

We are putting in for DH spousal visa next month and we don't have any savings at all.

We both live in USA and will be going back with just what our suitcases can hold.  We do however have a lease for a house that we can move into first week in August and hubby has a letter with a job offer!

I dont have a job offer, but I am signed on with a temping agency and I know I will be able to find work quite easy.

I too am concered over the money issue as we don't a have any!  We are selling all that we have here, which is not that much really, so will probably just cover the cost of the spousal visa, 2 plane tickets and enough for a months rent and security!

I do however have an insurance policy that is due to mature 6th August with approx 20,000 UK pounds - but I'm not relying on that to get the spousal visa!

We do not have any children, both of us being of mature age <cough>, and will have been married for 14 months by the time we apply for the visa.

It's a great worry to me as well, because I want to get the visa done and dusted before I myself go back end of June - hubby will be following hopefully end of July!

I really don't want the added worry of having to put in for the visa when I get to UK, I just want to concentrate on getting  a job, a car and stuff for the house!

I keep telling myself that I'm sure its going to be okay, but I know until we get that visa in our hands, I wont breath properly again ;)
