Venice - hotel recommendations?

Thinking about planning a weekend break in Venice for the autumn - any recommendations for a decent well located hotel up to 150 euros a night?

I wish I could say that I have a lot of experience to help with this question, because after visiting Venice once last October for one night, it rapidly became one of my favorite destinations. I loved Venice. Ask me again in a couple years, and perhaps I'll have a more diverse answer.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Antiche Figure. I wanted something special, and near the transportation hubs. We stayed in one of the Blue Rooms, fronting the Grande Canal. We were told it was the best room in the hotel (it's actually the one that's pictured in their literature, their deluxe double)...and it certainly was gorgeous. The windows were surprisingly sound-proof for being in the hub of a lot of activity. Hotel staff spoke perfect English and were incredibly helpful/nice. It's located directly across from the Santa Lucia railway station (cross over a nearby bridge), and about 5 minutes' walk to Piazzale Roma, the hub of a lot of transportation in and out of the city. You don't have to pick the best room in the house; the price for it was steep: £200 for one night. (I do note that they had a January special of 139 euro a night for three nights for a deluxe double, however.)

Here's a photo out the bedroom window I took the morning we left:

Sorry, I can't resist one more, the Bidge of Sighs:

Chris,

Con o senza i bambini? :)  I can check with my BIL -- he & his partner took a short break there last year, I think.

We stayed at the Graspo De Ua last year.  It was great, the food was lovely and I was proposed to...

It is very near (less than 3 minute walk) the Rialto Bridge, and is very central.  The hotel staff were great, very helpful and accomodating.  We would certainly return!

Have fun in Venice!  If you are up for off the beaten path stuff, check out St Michelles Island (the cemetary) it is facinating!!

We've been there twice, first time stayed at a hotel that was close to the Bridge of Sighs, but I can't remember the name of it,,,very nice though.  The second time were there for 4 days and rented an apartment that was right next to the Rialto Bridge.  That was wonderful,,,the apartment was beautiful, it was nice to be able to make coffee whenever we wanted and have breakfast whenever.  The street wasn't very touristy and so there were great little restaurants and deli's close by, as well as the market.  Also, when we met the owner, he was waiting for us with a bottle of the local wine (Proseco???), i'd go back there anytime.

Chris - My BIL & his partner stayed in the Lido de Jesolo area when they went to Venice. I found this info on that area:

Lido de Jesolo is located on the Venetian Riviera Town facing the Adriatic Sea. Lido de Jesolo is in the perfect holiday destination where is possible to combine a beach holiday and sightseeing in Venice. The local waterbus (vaporetto) service is excellent and the journey from Lido de Jesolo to Venice takes just 30 minutes and worth taking just for the views across the lagoon.

Apparently, they stayed only one day there (not sure where).  BIL & his partner do quite a few European jaunts here & there.  He did recommend this site for booking hotels:  www.totalstay.com    Said he's been consistently happy with the hotels they've booked through that site.

Sorry I couldn't be of further help.  Steve says Mum & Dad went to Venice when he was a toddler so I don't think they would be much help either!  Good luck.
