Unexpected pleasures....
« on: April 22, 2005, 08:01:03 PM »
...I was cleaning out my suitcase last night in preparation for my trip to Scotland, and came across a Lush bubble bar that I had totally forgotten about!  I went to Lush and picked up a few things while I was in Honolulu, which was the last time I used that suitcase.  Had a nice bath this morning before work with half of the 'hot toddy' bubble bar crumbled into it.  Heaven!!!  ;D ;D ;D  (No Lush store anywhere near where I live, so I don't get to indulge very often!)

Also found a 5-pound coin!

The fresh tulips that I put in a vase on my desk the other day have now opened up and they are GORGEOUS!!!  I don't treat myself to flowers very often, but I've been a little stressed this week and picked them up one day when I was at the store, thinking they would help lighten my mood.  They did!!!   [smiley=daisy.gif]

And I snuck downstairs to peek at Hamish's kittens before work.  They're about 1 month old now, and CUTE!!!  They were all sound asleep, little puff balls, and had arranged themselves by colour.  The two black kitties were curled up together, the grey kitties were cuddling in the middle. and the 'siamese' kittens were snoozing on the other end.

Anyone have any little pleasures they'd like to share?  I need some extra smiles today!!!   ;D ;D ;D
(Someone at work just walked in and quit - that's how stressful things have become!)  [smiley=freak.gif]

When I am grown-up I will understand how BEAUTIFUL it feels to administrate my life effectively.

Until then I will continue to TORCH all correspondence that bores me and to dance NAKED over the remnants of its still glowing embers.

It was hell day at work, and one of the students came in with a large tub of . . . Wine Gums!  YUMMY!

I found the delicious streaky bacon bits in Lidl.

Whilst digging through a handbag I found some YSL Paris perfume!  I'd forgotten how much I liked it.  MMmmm.  Smells like Spring.

The daffodils and tulips are having quite a party in my garden at the moment and I will certainly miss them when I move. I can certainly relate to the "Lush discovery" story. I am forever leaving things in suitcases or purses and it's wonderful to rediscover what you had forgotten about. :)

My bf let me sleep until 11am this morning...he got out of bed and did his own thing...usually I'm the one who does that!  And then he made me a yummy fry-up.  So I'm full, got lots of sleep and happy!

I thought we had pulled out all the bulbs from the box in front last autumn. Turns out we didn't get them all and now we've got a box full of bleeding hearts and another plant which I can't ever remember but it's big and  green and leafy and it'll pop big red flowers in a month or two.

And I had forgotten about our tulips and have just realised last week that that's what that wierd thing growing was. Cant' wait to see what colour they are.

Also, my friend had gone to visit her family in Germany and to visit a wine festival. She remembered a comment I made one night (months and months ago) about how I like German wine and she's brought me two bottles back. (very decent wine, I might add) I made her dinner on Thursday to thank her (and to share a bottle) and I've got one left which I think I'll be cheeky and drink all by myself.  ;D

The other afternoon I was exhausted after chasing my son around all morning.  I put him down for his usual 2 hour nap and took care of some housework that needed doing.  When I realized that his nap was almost over, I decided to lay down and rest for the 10 minutes I had until he woke up.  The little sweetie decided to sleep for 3 hours, giving me some much-needed rest!

My husband vacuumed and cleaned in preparation for our Friday overnight guest because I had the world's worst migraine.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I honestly have the best man alive: Since I've been diagnosed with the joint disease, he does practically everything as far as cooking and cleaning go. I think, at first, it didn't hit him how serious my condition is (my hip has been described as "Swiss cheese" and  "a honeycomb,") but he's been SO kind and supportive since then. It was less than three years into our marriage when I was diagnosed, and it could happen to another joint any day, but he's with me for the long haul. Compared to my previous self-destructive habit of always falling for someone who didn't care about me, Andrew is a GODSEND. I couldn't be luckier.

Impossible! I have him (the best man alive). He puts up with my constant b*tchiness (lately) and mercurial mood swings (he calls them 'passing storms'), just taking it all in stride. And he will cook, clean, etc - though I do most of it right now since he's working a job & I'm not. He's helped me lose 35 pounds in the last year. He's brilliant and funny as can be. He took me on (over here to England) last year & has fully supported me ever since -- I was basically penniless in coming over. He paid for our lovely wedding in a hotel last August. He bought us a house (my first real "home" ever since I left my parents house). He's taken me to Amsterdam (twice), Antwerp, and in Spain - Barcelona & Madrid. I have the most amazing life now -- like something I'd only have conceived of in farfetched daydreams before -- largely thanks to my DH. (He will claim, cheekily, that he did it all for T&A. :P)

Right now, he's out running -- training for a half-marathon in May.  I am so proud of and happy with this man. ;D

I had a party this past weekend in my apartment which left it a disgusting mess that I thought would take days to clean up......Being severly hungover  [smiley=drunk.gif], I slept really late but woke up to my boyfriend tip toeing around picking up the last of the beer bottles off the floor.  He did all the dirty work....dishes, floors, everything!!!!

Another one was when I went into the store where the dress that I'd been eye-ing for a wedding was.  When I got there to show one of my friends what it looked like I saw that it was  35% off !!!! An added bonus they only had one left and it was in my size ....so I just had to get it!!

This morning, I've watched a beautiful sunrise over the Channel as I've sat here reading and typing (the seagulls are out in full force, as well). Yesterday, my husband was sitting in the living room (we're still taking turns unpacking) and I was in the bedroom. I heard him laugh, then heard a slight thump against the window. It turns out that a "randy" male pigeon was pursuing a female pigeon playing "hard to get," walking along the ledge of our fifth-floor window(s), which stretch across the entire back of the flat, facing the sea. From his vantage point, he just saw their heads bobbing up and down as they made their way down the ledge. When they got to the bedroom window (the living room and bedroom are adjacent), I could see their entire bodies and their back-and-forth song-and-dance routine, and then they both just stopped and stared in at me, for at least a minute. Then they made their way back in the other direction, at which point I heard my husband laughing again. Apparently, they had stopped and stared at him as well. It was very funny (or perhaps you'd have to have been there...). I'm wondering, if we'd had the windows fully open, whether they'd have popped in for a "nice cup of tea" and some chit-chat. (The female would probably complain about the male's recent acquisition of pigeon Viagra). :)

DH brought me home a vase of tulips last night to cheer me up.  (He knew it had been a hard day.)

Also, he assembled our computer desk on Sunday (all 125 flat pack pieces of it) and this nice leather office chair yesterday night (33 pieces of it) -- so no more sitting on the floor typing!!!  Yay!!  I may never leave this spot now, the chair is so comfy (and warm being off the floor).

On Saturday, I noticed a dog I had not seen before walking about. Later in the day he decided to take a nap in my driveway and when I opened the door to say hello, he waltzed right in like he lived here. He was wearing a collar but with no tags. I called the local shelters, newspapers and vets, but no one had reported a missing dog. I also posted signs around my tiny mountain community. Monday I took him to one of the 2 local vets, and they scanned him for a microchip, but he has none. They did tell me he is a purebred Golden Retriever and that he is about 9 or 10. He is VERY well trained/behaved and I cannot figure out why the owners are not looking for him. I have to keep him for 14 days before I can adopt him out to another home, but at 96 hours, it is looking increasingly like he was a drop off. :(

Let me say that I am a cat person generally. I do like dogs, but they do not fit my busy life. This dog prob outweighs me and eats like a horse. His paws are about the same size as my hands. We do not have a fenced yard so my son has been getting up almost an hour early (4:30 AM) to walk him, I have a neighbor come and walk him midday, and I am doing the evening walks. My 2 cats are VERY put out that there is a lowly dog in their midst, and he ignores them completely. Hilarious! If someone had told me that I would actually be enjoying having a dog in the house, I might have scoffed, but I find that I really do like him. I cannot keep him long term, but it is really an "unexpected pleasure" to have him around for a short while. :)

He's beautiful!!!  How could someone just let him go!!  I hope you are able to find a good home for him - if it can't be yours.

But you sound like you are being a good foster mom for the time being.

I don't have to work tomorrow.  That makes me happier than words can say! :)
