student visa and small business start up in uk
« on: April 29, 2005, 03:05:57 PM »
Hi,

I currently have a student visa, but am also interested in starting a small business in the arts (somewhat web based, with my own images, art).  I am almost finished with my degree (BA) and have lived with my partner (bf) for the past 2 years plus in his (our) home.  I visit my family about twice a year and probably could fly back and forth but I don't want to ever be turned away, or worry about legalities, etc.

I was hopeful that maybe another UK Yankee would have a bit of advice for me as to what my best visa option would be and also any advice on starting up a small business in England (Wiltshire area), would also be most appreciated.

Thank you for your help, take care,

Chantel :)

If you've lived with your BF for 2 years, I'd go for Unmarried Partner status and that way you can work without restriction (i.e., start up your own business as well!).

Thank you Peedal, I really appreciate the advice :) .

I was thinking maybe that would be the way to go.

Have you or do you know any other yankees who have started a small business over here?

Take care :) ,

Chantel

There's a section in this forum called SOHO which might be where you'd get better information on that.  I'm just a normal working stiff, I'm afraid!  ;D
