Usually something savoury and warm and pastry encased from the bakery - like cheese straws, or a sausage roll and a meringue with fresh cream :)

The good thing about being a Brit in America - I won't be able to find such things! But then you guys have Ruffles potato chips instead :(

I always made my own cheese straws in the US. Easy peasy! But you can find them in gourmet shops, too. Even on the East Coast! ;)  Ditto for meringues. Sold in all the supermarkets as I recall. Sorry to burst your bubble!

What's a cheese straw?

My favorite food ever is tortilla chips with melted shredded cheese! I would eat that every day if I didn't know how sinfull it is! I love cheese, also have a thing about eating peanut butter M&Ms and beef jerky for lunch one day out of each month! Strange craving but it's sooooo good!

Chocolate chip cookies.
If not homemade, stick 'em in the microwave for 10 seconds to get warm and gooey.

What's a cheese straw?

A pastry-ish stick-shaped yummy thing baked with grated cheese in it. Kind of like a cheese-flavoured breadstick, but not really.

(I'm not good at explaining  :-\\\\)

I'm afraid I'm a food girl so it makes it difficult to choose one comfort food! I think most of my comforty eating things are bread and cheese related.

My Aunt Mary makes the most wonderful homemade Mac & Cheese!

Also, I love a good puffed pancake- basically a lovely buttery popover that is made in a pie plate. Add butter and Karo syrup and I'm in heaven.

Savouries will get my vote every time, I think. My hubby and I have cravings for sundried tomato pate on a warm crusty french baguette. But we don't often give in because we want to have a long life together!!  ;)

Mine changes with mood.  Right now, it's KitKat limited editions.  Particularly the berry one.  Mmmmm.

Ice cream is an old staple, however.

What's a cheese straw?

Cheese straws, sausage rolls, and cheese scones -- ALWAYS when we are visiting at my MIL & FIL's house in Norfolk, DH's mum makes these for him (and his brother too if he's there) without fail.  She uses puff pastry dough to make the cheese straws -- puff pastry rolled out with cheese (on them, I guess?), baked & cut into sticks.  Puff pastry for the sausage rolls too.  I think these are traditional English snack fare?

Nothing beats a taco or burrito!! I have tons of Mexican spices packed and two pounds of corn tortillas for when I move over this summer!

Hope you are feeling better Stacey!  If you lived closer I would have brought you chicken soup from Harry Morgan's around the corner (bagel/deli with the bestest soup!)
