You know about the half price ticket line then, right?  I hear Spamalot is always sold out, but try.  Wicked should be easier.  My sister saw it she said it was fabu!!!

OK, will get some food ideas together for you!

Stacey--- when are you coming to East Hampton?! I grew up out here!!!

My suggestions:

best pizza in NY: Lombardi's on Mott St.

Harlem-- St Pauls Chapel @ Columbia University {one of the prettiest churches in NYC}, Cathedral of St John the Divine, Sylvia's on Lenox Ave {NY's best soul food}, Apollo Theater.

Lincoln Center-- the fountains are beautiful at night

American Museum of Natural History-- very fun for *all* ages

Central Park-- go to "The Ramble"- 37 acres of woodlands; excellent bird-watching, the views from Belvedere Castle

Metropolitan Museum of Art

Guggenheim Museum

St Patrick's Cathedral

MoMa

5th Avenue for the luxury goods; if yer into that sorta thing

United Nations

Grand Central Terminal

Chrysler Building

Carnegie Hall

New York Public Library

Bryant Park

Rockefeller Center {Morrell's has a nice wine bar there}

Chelsea Piers, if you're into working out-- the most amazing gym/sports complex in the world

Empire State Buidling- day or night

Flatiron Building

Gramercy Park

Tompkins Square Park; my favorite in NYC

St. Marks Place {a street with nice shops, small cafes, downtown feel- very different from the Upper East Side...}

Little India: East 6th Street--- kick a$$ curry

McSorley's Old Ale House

Washington Square Park

75 1/2 Bedford St

Balducci's

Museum for African Art

Dean & Deluca

Delancey St & East Houston St

LES Tenement Museum

Chinatown

City Hall

walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset

Staten Island ferry at night

Statue of Liberty

Century 21, across from WTC site

NYSE

Trinity Church

Coney Island and the famous "Cyclone" roller coaster in Brooklyn

Astoria, Queens for amazing Greek food

Beauty Bar-- martini and a manicure!

Angelika for foreign, art house, indie films

Bowlmor Lanes in Greenwich Village for day-glo bowling, chill-out DJ, tapas and cocktails

I personally stay away from Times Square,  WTC site, 34th St/Herald Square {where the famous Macy's is} South Street Seaport.... I also don't go to many tourist sites unless I have guests in town; I enjoy taking them to place like Empire State Building, etc... But I prefer to show them the real NYC the guide books don't cover very often.

These are the sights I could think of. If you want to PM me, I can give you ideas on food, bars and clubs as well.

Great info in Time Out NY magazine {pick up one when you get here; theres alot of info in it.} Village Voice online is another great read.

Enjoy your time in the *BEST* city in the world- my home, no matter where I live.  :-*

I have to second everything said by ny 2 uk!!!  I used to work at Lincoln Center, but the season is over by the time you will be there!

Little India!!!  YUMMY!!!  BTW, all the food is half the price of what it says on the menu, I love how they do that!  The places with the most lights are my favourite!!!

I will be in EH!!!!  I can't wait it's been years since I was there!!!

Well, it's THE flagship store, so I'm sure it's there - and if Stacey says it is ;)

They did close down a number of shops, but I'm sure the smaller ones in various other areas.

To me, it is THE ULTIMATE in toy stores.  I loved it there!

tebs, you're gonna have a hard time trying to fit it all in!  Never a loss for things to do in New York!

Also, when (not IF, because you MUST) you go the Metropolitan Art Museum, please say hello to my favourite painting in all the world... Madame X by John Singer Sargent... sadly, I've never seen it in person myself :( (was on tour when I was in NYC).

Are you going to be in any of the outlying areas as well?
I can highly recommend Hyde Park (FDR's home), which is also very near the CIA - not the one you're thinking of; the Culinary Institute of America - gorgeous campus, gorgeous meals.  I was ready to sign up after visiting!

I love the Metropolitian,, I walked across Central Park to get to it,, nice walk, but a waste of part of the day that I could have spent in the museum,,lol. Would love to spend two whole days in there if possible, I never made it out of the Egyptian section, and really wanted to go downstairs to the costume institute.  Both girls are artists, so I think they will love visiting Madame X ;)  LOVE the gift shop there,, great stuff!  I need to talk to the girls and get this trip sorted out. I think they will really enjoy doing something different. :) Thanks everyone :)

When the heck did they close FAO's!?  I think it's still in NY!  What a shame, it's so fun going in there and watching the kid's faces as they look around!

I only remember them closing the one in Houston,, I see they have their site online still, so I think the NY store must still be going strong,, It's a tourist destination for goodness sake, it should do loads of business!

Lack of business?  :(

The website only lists Vegas and NY store locations... so I'm sure the NY store is still there.

Humm,, I am not sure now,, I had thought I remember something about them closing the NY store, about the same time as when they closed the Houston store. Bear in mind, the Houston store hadn't even been there very long. I was so excited when they opened on there.  Will have to do a google on it now.

it has to still be open, I can't find anything about it being closed. Fingers crossed anyway :)
