PGCE Funding??

Does anyone know of any educational charities or trusts that might fund a PGCE?

Apparently, to be eligible for the PGCE bursary, you need to have been resident in the UK for 3 years, and I, having only just got married and settled here, don't fit the requirement.  Seems strange that with a teacher shortage they don't want to help good, intelligent, dedicated people get into the profession regardless of place of birth, but there you go.

But my husband's doing his PGCE in the fall, so on his 6,000 bursary, there's no way we could afford to pay Non-EU tuition fees for me. 

Any ideas??

Welcome to the club.  I've been here since June and I want to apply for PGCE, but since I haven't been paying into the LEA for 3 years, not only am I not entitled to course-fees being covered, but I won't get the training bursary.

I haven't found any agencies that fund yet.

AFAIK, there are no agencies that will fund a PGCE for anyone who hasn't been resident in the country for 3 years.  So, it's either a matter of waiting those 3 years or paying international tuition.   

Theres something simmilar to a PGCE, I don't have any details or remember what its called but you work at a school and they pay you a wage and train you to be a teacher as well, sort of a learn thru work program.  Perhaps this would be an option for someone?  Look at the TTA website.

Is the three year requirement for non-citizens, or for citizen who haven't lived in the UK for the last three years, does ayone know?

I think it's just for non-citizens (or I guess I should say non-citizens who haven't lived here for 3 years) -- citizens can just go through paying the much cheaper rates!   

Also, the teacher shortage only applies to certain areas, such as secondary-level sciences and maths.

You have to  have been resident (but not as a student)in the UK for three years prior to beginning a course to qualify for UK fees. UK citizens who have been resident outside the UK/EU for this time also have to pay overseas fees.

Nope.  We have some British students here who had to live abroad b/c of their parents' jobs.  And they pay international fees.
