Digital Cameras?
« on: May 31, 2005, 09:12:59 AM »
My digital camera broke about 2 weeks ago and i was wondering where it would be better to buy myself a new camera?

In Janaury I will be moving to London and am wondering if i buy a camera here will the memory cards work over there?  Are there Compact Flash cards over there?  I just bought a 256MB CF card and would be very upset if there isnt any CF cards there.

Where would it be cheaper to buy one?

Thanks

Buy in the US... most electronics are cheaper there.  They do carry everything you'll need over here, but if you can get extras in the US...do it!

Definately get it in the States. One of the things that surprised me when I got here was the prices for electronics are the same in Pounds as they are in dollars. No differential from the exchange rate.
www.geeks.com has alot of good deals on refurbs and are reliable.

I just bought a Canon Powershot SD400 (also known as a Digital Elph). I can't even begin to rave about how much I love this camera!  I got it on Dell.com, which has frequent sales. Amazon.com is also good. But definately purchase the camera in the US. Much much cheaper. I shelled out an extra $100 to buy a 1 GIG SD card. (the 16meg card that comes with the camera is worthless, as it only holds 10 photos).

If you need compactflash or other types of memory cards, you'll have no problem finding them in UK but at higher costs.

Thats good to hear that the UK has CF cards since there are only 2 brands of cameras that use CF cards here.  Okay, So thats something else that i need to buy before i leave.  :)
