DH is a marzipan fanatic. He buys these huge marzipan logs covered in chocolate and eats them in one go. I like marzipan, but that's a bit much for me.

I do that, too! I looooove marzipan! Especially those boxes of little marzipan fruit you get at Christmas! With cloves for stems? LOVE THEM!

We bought a giant marzipan stollen from Lidl today and I just had a piece ... make that a slab ... of it with a cup of tea. Mmmmm......  :)

DH is nuts over the little fruit. It's so funny to watch him. He has a specific order he has to eat them in and he eats the entire box in one go.

The World Market near us has a stollen we bought last year, but it didn't have marzipan. It was yummy. I'll have to look around to find one with marzipan. DH would go bonkers.

If he likes marzipan, he'll love it! Do you have a Lidl anywhere near you?

Nope. I may look online though. Is it covered with marzipan?

The one's he usually gets are not exactly like these, but you get the idea...  I give you Marzipan World!  http://www.marzipanworld.com/acatalog/Marzipan_World_Marzipan_Fruits_1.html

They're just little marzipan balls shaped to look like fruit and usually painted with food coloring.

I've heard of the marzipan fruits, but I've never had marzipan at all. Do they taste really sugary?

It's sweet, but not overly so. It's an almond paste so it can be a little bit dry if it's not kept sealed. I've tried to make my own, but can never get the almonds ground up fine enough.

cute!

Aren't they, though? Don't you want some right now?!?!

I think I might try to make my own this Christmas! I'm not sure if I'll make my own marzipan, but I'll definitely try to make the fruit.

More almondy than sugary. Sweet but, as tristessa says, not sickly sweet. Sometimes I think the stuff covered with chocolate is too sweet, but that's due more to the chocolate than to the marzipan. I prefer my marzipan unadulterated!

Nope. I may look online though. Is it covered with marzipan?

Not covered with it, but it has a thick layer of marzipan in the middle. It's heavenly!

I'll try to look for the marzipan and see how it tastes.  :)

I love marzipan and eat it by the roll- only the white stuff.  I don't like the yellow (must be in the head) but why is it yellow?

My ex taught me how to make little animals and fruits out of marzipan. I'll do that for the kids but for me - I take it neat.

I use marzipan nearly all the time when making birthday cakes. It is so pliable, you can make nearly anything out of it.

I saw this thread and thought I hadn't seen this one before so started at the beginning. Took me a while before I realised it was a prehistoric thread.
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

Speaking of almond-y, sugar-y goodness, anyone ever heard of kransekake?  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kransekake.  For all you marzipan lovers, it is delicious, and there are a ton of recipes out there.
