I just had a quick search for "white pudding" (wondering if it's like those nasty white sausages in France) and I came across this quote on someone's website:

"I was at a Scottish evening (playing those jigs and reels) and part of the meal was "white pudding" - it was savoury and like a pale herby sausage - I did not enquire too closely into the ingredients : sausages are like political decisions, if you like them, its probably better that you don't know what went into them."

I think that's about right ;)

That bolded bit is great!  I love it!

I was totally surprised by sausage and burgers when I was in England. Everything has mystery fillers in it!! :P Michigan has some of the most stringent meat packing and producing laws in the country. When you buy something you know what it is and what's in it. I especially prefer Kosher hotdogs - no mystery there, you know it's going to be good. I just hated English sausage for the most part, though there was one B&B that served some that was ok.

You can get exceptionally good sausages here in the UK but not at the supermarket unless you're buying their top of the line range. The best sausages are from local butchers and farmers markets - and you should ask them what's in them to make sure!!

Foods I can't stand:

Beer (it's wine & cocktails here, baby ;))
Raw tomatoes
Sushi/sashimi - raw fish, bleh!
Organ meats
Black/blood/white pudding (though I do love sausages otherwise)
Caviar
Marmite
Pate
Squid/Calamari
Raw oysters
Tofu
Black licorice
Tripe
Haggis
Anchovies
Spam & the like
Any kind of seafood or fish that smells/tastes too 'fishy'
Most game meat & fowl (but I do like venison)

I have developed a taste for lamb & learned to eat brussel sprouts since moving to England.
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

White pudding is basically just pork fat (from the back), oatmeal, onions and spices...  at least, that's how they make it here in Scotland... I dont know if it's different in England.

Haggis, I can't stand me the Haggis.  Its just so revolting.  I mean come on, what is the appeal to a scraped out sheep gut thats then been stuffed with entrails and oats.  And I'm even Scottish and I am still saying this.

Brussel sprouts are just foul.

I would eat sushi and sashimi every day of my life if I could afford it, but mackerel is disgusting! [smiley=puke.gif]  Can't stand mackerel.  Doesn't matter if it's raw or cooked.  Mackerel just shouldn't be served as a food, it should be allowed to swim around and live out its days in peace, but it should NEVER be served as something to be considered edible!!!

New Castle Brown Ale is gross, if it was the last alcoholic beverage on earth I suppose I would have to become a "t-totaller".

I am sure there are other things, but that's what comes to mind at the moment.

We're having Greek style mackerel tonight - and DH is a Geordie and loves a 'bottle of dawg' - as do I!

 ;D

I'll have to "surf the net," then.  I'm sure there's another one out there just for me!  ;D ;D

If you can't find one, there's a local brewery here that has the quote on the back of their shirts.  Be happy to pick one up for you and send it over.  ;)

I loooove mackerel! I love it when the BF goes mackerel fishing and comes back with a TON of tiny mackerel! Fry 'em up and I can eat like 8 of 'em at one sitting! Delish!

It's coconut that my DH despises.  He thinks that the stuff should never leave it's rough, furry shell (apparently those swallows shouldn't have tried to carry it here between them on a line... ;D)  I, on the other hand, really like coconut.  ;D

I have had it several times. I think it's fine. It's got enough oatmeal or padding in it to disguise that kindof bitter taste you get with "innerds". I wouldn't order it in a restaurant but I can happily eat it on Burns night.

I may take you up on this - the only ones I found are like "novelty" t-shirts and I'd much rather have one from a brewery!!  ;D

OK, I know everyone says they hate all these foods, but have you actually tried them all!?  I ask because as a sushi eater I always used to have friends looking at me with disgust in there eyes!  I'd say OK, what's wrong, they would say, ick sushi is gross and I would say oh so you have tried it!?  No, they would say 99% of the time, so I made them try it and 98% of the time they loved it!!!!!
