Kinda early but - Thanksgiving at Plymouth?
« on: June 14, 2005, 12:37:50 AM »
Has anyone ever been to this event? Either the flag ceremony or the Friday night dinner/dance? Care to share about it? We are thinking of going this year. Can anyone tell me how formal the dinner/dance is and whether children (older - aged 12 and 15) would be welcome?

Anyone interested in booking a UKY table?

Yeah, sometimes I plan early. Rarely but it happens ;)

You can check out the site-  www.thanksgivingplymouth.info     I'm sure you already did-but in case someone else wants to.  Sounds interesting and this will be the first Thanksgiving without seeing any of my family-so I might be a possibility-but I can't give any permanent yes.

Also-the website said it was 45 pounds (inc VAT) but 50 pounds off when you book a table of 10-so everyone would be paying 40 pounds.  And I'm not sure if the Sunday brunch is included-when I went to look at the details-it just gave the time-so I'm sure it's not included.

It's just the dinner dance that is £45 (£40 per ticket when booking a table of 10). The Sunday brunch is a seperate event and it's cost is still "to be confirmed".

Hmmm, that looks nice!  If I don't go home this year might be cool!

I have not been, but there are certain people on here that have.

Not sure if we will go, but I would love to meet up with those that venture down south....

I mean if you are coming all this way to see me you know the least I can do is meet up.... ;)

Seriously though I know it can be quite nice...

I've been there several times, the first year was great.  Not only did they have the flag raising and presentation of a turkey (dead & plucked) to the commander of the US Navy, but they had a ship that was similiar to the Mayflower.  Upon presentation of any US ID, you could board the ship and go to a fabulous cocktail party which was sponsored by the Plymouth Gin co. and Dartington Glass,,,needless to say, I had a GREAT time there!  Both companies also gave away gift bags with bottles of gin and commemorative paperweights.  The last few that we've been too haven't been that good, but then we haven't been to the dinner/dance.  The brunch was quite nice, very informal but it was fun.  Last year we just went to the flag raising and it seemed to be a little low key, although it seemed like there were quite a few American visitors there.  But if you haven't been to Plymouth before, it is well worth the trip, it's undergoing some major changing and is becoming a lovely little city!
